NEW AT NOON, AN FDN Y EMT HAS A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR. LIAM COLLAPSED WHILE RESPONDING TO AN EMERGENCY INVOLVING ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE DEPARTMENT. TARA IS LIVE AT THE HOSPITAL ON THE UPPER EAST SIDE. TARA. Reporter: CHRIS AND MARY, THE FDNY AND FIRST RESPONDERS GATHERED HERE TODAY SAY THEY WILL REFER TO TODAY MOVING FORWARD AS THE FDNY THANKSGIVING. THAT’S BECAUSE ONE OF THEIR OWN BEAT THE ODDS AND WALKED OUT OF HERE MOMENTS AGO. IF THAT’S NOT ENOUGH TO BE THANKFUL FOR, THEY WERE HERE CELEBRATING FOR THE SAME REASON JUST ABOUT A MONTH AGO AFTER A STRANGE TWIST OF FATE. LIAM WAS GREETED BY RISING APPLAUSE AS HE LEFT THE HOSPITAL. A SIMILAR SCENE FOR FELLOW FIRST RESPONDER AS HE LEFT THE HOSPITAL ON OCTOBER 30. AN EMS WORKER WAS RESPONDING TO AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING 63-YEAR- OLD, LIAM, BACK ON OCTOBER 17. WHEN HE HAD A NEAR FATAL ANEURYSM. A MEDICAL TECH TECHNICIAN SUFFERED A STROKE. BOTH MEN WERE RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL WITH A UNIQUE CHAIN OF EVENTS HAD DOCTORS SCRATCHING THEIR HEADS. TODAY, THEY STOOD SIDE BY SIDE, BOTH EXPECTED TO MAKE A FULL RECOVERY. I’LL TELL YOU, YOU COULDN’T WRITE THIS STORY ANY BETTER. THIS IS A TOTAL SUCCESS STORY, THANKS TO THE STAFF OF THE BUILDING BEHIND ME. THEY MADE A TOTAL DIFFERENCE IN MY OUTCOME. FROM HOW I CAME IN HERE TO HOW I’M LEAVING ON MY OWN POWER WITH 100% FUNCTIONALABILITY. SO THE CITY DIDN’T LOSE TWO PEOPLE TODAY, WE’RE BACK IN THE GAME. WE’RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. [ APPLAUSE ] I’M VERY HAPPY I HAVE COME OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND I’M ABLE TO WALK TO THE HOSPITAL TODAY. AND WHEN ASKED IF HE WOULD GO BACK TO WORK, HE SAID, OF COURSE, I HAVE THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD. AND IT’S ONLY ONE OF HIS JOBS, BECAUSE THE WEST MILLFORD FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS HERE AS WELL. BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER THERE FOR OVER 30 YEARS.
