SAY- IT’S TOO LATE…2-SYDNEY: A CHARTERED BUS NEARLY FULL OF CHILDREN CAUGHT FIRE IN THE HILL COUNTRY TODAY.THE PHOTOS ARE ENOUGH TO MAKE ANY PARENT OF A SUMMER CAMPER GASP.ROBERT: THANKFULLY, EVERYONE MADE IT OUT SAFELYTHE FIRE HAPPENED IN BLANCO COUNTY. KXAN’S GARY COOPER IS THERE AND ASKING QUESTIONS. THESE PHOTOS SHOW JUST HOW BAD IT WAS. JUST BEFORE 10:30 THIS MORNING, ON U-S 281, A FEW MILES NORTH OF JOHNSON CITY, FIRST RESPONDERS SAY A CARAVAN OF AT LEAST THREE BUSES WERE HEADED SOUTH.. WHEN SMOKE STARTED BILLOWING FROM THE BACK OF ONE. ROY BURDETT/JOHNSON CITY VFD CHIEF:AT THIS POINT, WE DON’T KNOW. IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AREA. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER, EVERYONE GOT OUT WITH THIER BELONGINGSâ| AND THAT’S WHEN THE FIRE FLARED UPâ| FAST. FIGHTING THIS ONE WAS NOT LIKE FIGHTING A FIRE IN THE CITYâ| IN THE COUNTY, WE DON’T HAVE ANY HYDRANTS, SO VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS HAVE TO BRING EVERYTHING WITH THEM. THE BUS.. DESTROYED. IT WAS A CHURCH GROUP ON THE WAY TO OR BACK FROM A CAMP, THAT’S ALL WE KNOW AND ONE OF THE BUSES MALFUNCTIONED. THE BUS WAS COMMISSIONED BY SUMMIT CHRISTIAN CENTER FROM SAN ANTONIOâ| WE’VE REACHED OUT TO THE CHURCH BUT HAVE NOT HEARD BACK. PASTOR RICK GODWIN DID TWEET THOUGH — SAYING:ALL CHILDREN EXITED SAFELYâ|. THANK GOD FOR HIS PROTECTION. THE BUS ITSELF BELONGS TO IMPERIAL BUS COMPANY.. A CHARTER RENTAL SERVICE.. ALSO FROM SAN ANTONIOâ| RICK GARZA/IMPERIAL BUS COMPANY: THE CONCERN OF THE COMPANY IS NOT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CAN BE REPLACED. LIVES [CAN NOT] BE REPLACED.GARZA WAS NOT ABLE TO SPEAK OF HOW OLD THE BUS WAS, THE DRIVER, OR THE MAINTENANCE RECORDSâ| THE BUS IS LONG GONE.DPS AND TXDOT HAVE BEEN OUT HERE LOOKING FOR DAMAGE TO THE HIGHWAY.THE FIRE CHIEF TOLD ME THE HIGHWAY WILL CERTAINLY NEED REPAIRSâ|. IN BLANCO COUNTY. GARY COOPER
